TICKETS: Tickets for San Lorenzo are purchased online usually within a week of kick off. You will need to register, for free at Club Atlético San Lorenzo de Almagro - Powered by CleverSoft®. When tickets go on sale simply login and purchase. Aside from when playing River, Boca and their local rivals Hurucan, San Lorenzo do not usually sell out their home games.
PRE MATCH: Given the size of the stadium fans amalgamate in a number of areas. In front of the north stand (Plate Norte) the Barra Bravas tend to get the atmosphere started. Please note a 'villa' (shanty town) is situated opposite the north stand. Groups of fans also meet along Avenida General Francisco Fernandez de la Cruz of which a beer and food can be purchased from street vendors. There is a nice hustle and bustle feel along this road in the build up to the game.
HISTORY IN A NUTSHELL: The club formed in 1908 and was named in honour of both Lawrence of Rome (San Lorenzo in Spanish) and the battle of San Lorenzo (one of the battles for independence in Argentina). San Lorenzo are considered to be one of the 'Big Five' teams in the country. San Lorenzo played from 1916 in the Boedo neighbourhood of Buenos Aires before moving to the Nuevo Gasometro (New Gas meter) stadium in the Bajo Flores area of the city in 1993.They have won the league on 15 occasions, the Copa Libertadores once and the Copa Sudamericana once.
DID YOU KNOW?: They won the 2014 Copa Libertadores. In the two-legged final they overcame Nacional of Paraguay 2-1 on aggregate after drawing the first game away 1-1.
TOP TIPS: Leaving the stadium gets busy and finding a bus can take while. Taxi’s are also few and far between. If you walk north east along the large avenue of General Francisco Fernandez de la Cruz you will find a number of street vendors selling food and drink. You can either have a post match beer and wait for the crowds go down or hop on any bus heading north taking you away from the stadium. A number of buses will take you to back to the Subte network.
Bus number 50 from the centre of Buenos Aires will take you to the stadium in just under an hour. Alternatively it is a 38 minute walk from Plaza de los Virreyes underground station (Line E). Walking from the underground will take you past a shanty town so getting the bus is the more sensible option.
